A Legacy of Women in the Alps: Celebrating International Women’s Day at Elizabeth Arthotel in Ischgl

Family-owned since its founding in 1976, Elizabeth Arthotel carries a legacy that stretches back more than a century. From early trailblazer Annemarie Aloys in the early 1900s to founder Elisabeth Aloys and today’s owner Mirjam Aloys, generations of women in the Aloys family have helped shape Ischgl into the world-class alpine destination it is today.
To mark the occasion, the hotel unveils Women in Frame (8–22 March), a contemporary exhibition celebrating female artistic voices. Featuring works by Francesca Martí, Susana Anaya, Patricia Reinhart, Annette Goessel and Dhira Barein, the show explores themes of memory, landscape and legacy—ideas that resonate deeply within the surrounding mountain environment.
A highlight of the exhibition is Sissy, a striking rooftop sculpture by Austrian sister duo Mercedes and Franziska Welte (NONOS). Named after Elisabeth Aloys’ affectionate nickname—an homage to Empress Elisabeth of Austria—the piece places a symbolic female presence directly within the Alpine skyline, connecting past and present through art.
The exhibition forms part of The Art of Legacy, the hotel’s season-long cultural programme celebrating its 50th anniversary. Through exhibitions, archival photography and artist collaborations, the initiative reflects on how heritage continues to evolve—shaped by creativity, place and the people who carry stories forward.
