Hotel Avidea: An Adults-Only Alpine Retreat Above Merano
There is something wonderfully seductive about a hotel that encourages you to stop checking the time.
At Hotel Avidea, high above Merano in Lagundo, South Tyrol, the days seem to fall naturally into a slower rhythm. Breakfast begins with a generous buffet built around regional produce, alongside a vitality corner and à la carte choices. In the afternoon there is a selection of hot and cold dishes and a cake buffet. Dinner brings a choice of three five-course menus, accompanied by a seasonal salad buffet.
Drinks are included too, from regional juices and aperitifs to cocktails and a selection of wines from South Tyrol and elsewhere in Italy.
There is even mountain spring water from Oberplars throughout the day.
During the warmer months, dining moves outdoors onto the panoramic terrace.

The wellness facilities have also been expanded, giving the hotel a more substantial spa offering than its intimate scale might suggest.
The wellness centre includes a Finnish outdoor sauna, bio-herbal sauna, steam bath and aroma experience shower, along with a relaxation area and vitality bar. Sauna infusions take place several times a week with a certified sauna master.
There is also a heated indoor and outdoor infinity pool maintained at around 30°C.
For anyone who prefers movement to lying around, the fitness room has modern equipment, while the hotel also offers relaxation sessions with a wellness trainer.
It is a nicely balanced approach.
You can hike all morning and recover in the sauna.
