As a family of five, space is never a small consideration. It shapes the entire experience. Too often, hotel rooms become somewhere to sleep rather than somewhere to relax, with suitcases permanently underfoot and parents quietly calculating where everyone will fit once younger children are asleep.
The rooms at Iberostar Kantaoui Bay are refreshingly generous. That sense of ease begins the moment you unpack and continues throughout the stay.
Outside, the hotel opens directly onto a beautiful sandy beach where the Mediterranean feels wonderfully gentle. The sea is calm enough for younger children to paddle comfortably, while the uninterrupted shoreline invites long walks that seem increasingly difficult to find in busier destinations.
For families travelling outside the height of summer, the indoor pool is another welcome feature. Peaceful and flooded with natural light, it offers a quieter alternative to the beach while maintaining the same unhurried atmosphere that defines the resort.
Dining, often can be one of the greatest anxieties for parents travelling with children, proved equally effortless. The buffet offered enough variety to satisfy adventurous adults while remaining reassuringly accessible for younger guests, all without sacrificing freshness or quality. It struck a lovely balance every family hopes for but rarely finds.
What stayed with me most, however, wasn't a particular meal or facility.
It was how the hotel made us feel.
Within a day, the children had claimed the holiday as their own. They knew their favourite route to the beach, recognised the familiar faces among the staff and slipped effortlessly into the kind of carefree routine that only truly successful family hotels seem able to create.
As parents, our own pace changed too.
There was no constant sense of rushing from one activity to the next, no pressure to extract maximum value from every hour. Instead, there was space to linger over breakfast, read by the pool, walk along the shoreline and simply enjoy watching our children experience the uncomplicated joy of being on holiday.
That feeling has proved surprisingly enduring.
Since returning home, every conversation about future holidays has been met with exactly the same question from our children:
"Can we go back to Tunisia?" “to the same hotel”
For me, there is no stronger endorsement.
