Tucked into the lively pulse of Westlands, one of the city's most dynamic business and lifestyle districts, this is a hotel that feels unmistakably modern, unmistakably Kenyan and thoroughly comfortable all at once.

First Impressions: A Lobby That Sets the Tone
You know a hotel is going to be special the moment you walk in, and the Novotel Nairobi Westlands does not waste that moment. The lobby is a full-height, open atrium that soars straight up to the roof, a striking architectural statement that immediately signals this is not your typical business hotel. Dining spaces and water features are woven right into this central space, so the sound of trickling water follows you as you check in, have a coffee, or simply pause to take it all in. It's the kind of design that photographs beautifully, but is even better to actually sit in.
The hotel's 347 rooms and suites lean into a smart, contemporary aesthetic - clean lines, comfortable furnishings and thoughtful tech touches that make both business and leisure stays easy. Everything was well thought through, from the soft bedding down to the local coffee that makes you want to linger a bit longer before heading out for the day. I'm not exaggerating when I say the buffet breakfast was a highlight of the stay. It's generous, varied and genuinely well executed - the kind of spread that makes you rethink your usual "just coffee" morning routine. Whether you're fueling up before meetings or easing into a day of leisure, this is a breakfast that delivers.
Rooftop Pool, Westlands Views
One of the best parts of each day was heading up to the rooftop pool. With panoramic views over Westlands' ever-growing skyline, it's really a lovely spot to unwind, whether that means a proper swim or just a cocktail at the poolside bar as the city hums below. It's a rare kind of urban escape, right in the middle of one of Nairobi's busiest neighborhoods.
And of course, no stay is complete without some truly relaxing downtime, and I spent mine at The Spa, a session in the steam room followed by a massage turned out to be exactly the reset I didn't know I needed. It's an intimate, well-appointed space and a lovely counterpoint to the energy of the lobby and the buzz of Westlands just outside.
Trunk & Tandoor: A Sky-High Indian Feast
If there's one meal to plan your visit around, make it dinner at Trunk & Tandoor, the hotel's Indian-inspired sky lounge. This is, without question, one of Nairobi's best Indian dining experiences full of bold, flavorful and beautiful dishes. Between the food and the vantage point over the city, it's an experience that stayed with me long after I checked out. And if Indian isn't what you're after that night, Gemma's Kitchen & Bar brings a strong Italian menu into the mix, rounding out a hotel that genuinely spans continents on its dining front.
What struck me most about the Novotel Nairobi Westlands is how well it balances its dual identity: a serious, well-equipped hotel for business travelers, with meeting and event spaces and a ballroom with a large foyer and outdoor area; and at the same time, a genuinely appealing leisure destination with its rooftop pool, spa and standout dining. Add to that its location, about 20 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport via the expressway and just steps from Sarit Centre and Westgate Mall for shopping and entertainment, and you have a hotel that makes it easy to make the most of your time in Nairobi, however you're spending it.
