You get the convenience of a full-service beachfront resort without ever feeling disconnected from the local atmosphere.
The property has been welcoming travelers for decades, but it continues to evolve. One of the newest additions is a collection of private pool suites in the adults-only Tropicana section, giving couples a quieter, more exclusive way to experience one of Costa Rica's most popular beach destinations.
Whether your ideal day involves surfing, relaxing beside the pool, booking a spa treatment, or simply watching another Pacific sunset with a drink in hand, Tamarindo Diria makes it remarkably easy.

The Location

You couldn't ask for a better base if you want to experience Tamarindo on foot.

The hotel sits directly on Playa Tamarindo, one of Costa Rica's best-known surfing beaches, while the town itself begins just beyond the entrance. There's no need to drive to dinner, browse local boutiques, or find somewhere for evening drinks. Everything is already around you.

That convenience quickly becomes one of the resort's biggest strengths. Mornings often begin with a walk along the sand before breakfast, afternoons drift between the beach and the pools, and evenings naturally lead into town before returning through the gardens.

Despite being right in the middle of Tamarindo, the grounds feel surprisingly peaceful. Mature tropical landscaping creates quiet corners that separate the resort from the lively streets outside.

First Impressions

The first thing you'll notice is how green the property feels.

Tamarindo Diria offers several accommodation areas, each with its own atmosphere.

The standout addition is the new private pool suites in the adults only Tropicana section. Tucked away from the livelier family areas, these suites offer extra privacy and their own plunge pools, making them an excellent choice for couples or anyone celebrating a special occasion.

Elsewhere, rooms overlook tropical gardens, swimming pools, or the ocean, with spacious layouts and private balconies or terraces that encourage you to spend as much time outside as possible.

If waking up to the sound of the waves is high on your list, the beachfront rooms are worth considering. For those looking for peace and added privacy, the Tropicana suites offer a very different experience without sacrificing easy access to the rest of the resort.

Dining

One of the advantages of staying at Tamarindo Diria is the variety of dining options available without leaving the property.

There are several restaurants spread across the resort, each offering something different. During our stay, we had dinner at El Pelícano, and it quickly became one of the highlights of the trip. Fresh seafood, beautifully prepared local ingredients, and an open-air setting overlooking the beach create the kind of relaxed evening that's hard to beat after a day in the sun.

Breakfast is served at the resort's beachfront restaurant, where tables look directly across Tamarindo Bay. Fresh tropical fruit, Costa Rican coffee, eggs cooked to order, pastries, and local specialties make it easy to linger longer than planned.

The same spot transforms in the evening. Order a cocktail just before sunset and watch the sky shift through shades of orange and pink as surfers catch their final waves of the day. It's one of those simple moments that stays with you long after the holiday ends.

Pools and Facilities

The resort offers enough variety that every guest can find their own favorite corner.

Families naturally gravitate toward the large lagoon-style pool, while adults looking for a quieter atmosphere often choose the adults-only pool in the Tropicana section. Then there's the beachfront pool, where you can move effortlessly between your sun lounger, the ocean, and the pool throughout the afternoon.

Each has its own personality, so the experience never feels repetitive even during a longer stay.

When it's time for a slower pace, the Garden Spa provides a welcome contrast. Hidden among lush greenery, it feels wonderfully secluded from the rest of the resort. The setting alone encourages you to switch off before your treatment even begins.

It's one of those places where an hour somehow disappears much faster than expected.

What Sets It Apart

Many beachfront resorts ask you to choose between staying close to the beach or close to town.

Tamarindo Diria gives you both.

You can spend the morning surfing, return for a swim in one of several pools, enjoy a massage at the Garden Spa, wander into town for shopping, and finish the evening with dinner overlooking the Pacific without ever needing a car.

The mature banyan trees, tropical gardens, and beachfront setting give the property a sense of place that's easy to appreciate. While Tamarindo continues to grow around it, the resort still feels closely connected to the landscape that made the town famous in the first place.
